and even if they are trans, it might just be a personal opinion but i don't really see that as problematic. i have a weird memory so i might be forgetting details but i just have never thought that they're trans.

i'm not 100% sure on where i stand on Val, specifically their gender, but i do have a pretty good idea of my stance on the topic, and i've never really thought of them as trans. like you said, you have a personal connection to the setting and themes of Outlast 2, which is probably why you enjoyed it so much (side note, but i'm very sorry you had to go through that, and i really hope you're in a better place now) but i do think Outlast 2 has a more immersive and fleshed-out story than the first games, so it's still good, i just prefer interesting characters to immersive story apparently. but with the Outlast 2 antagonists, i mostly just make Marta and Val into walking jokes, and i don't really feel anything towards Nick and Laird - Loutermilch is horrifying but he's an exception to the rule, as opposed to the first games where i found every antagonist interesting and scary. i, myself, prefer Outlast 1 and Whistleblower for a mixture of those reasons and because i feel like (at least for me) Outlast 1 and Whistleblower have much more interesting antagonists - i think a lot about the four core antagonists of those games (Chris, Trager, Manera, Eddie) and i find them all fascinating and horrifying in their own ways. like people below me have said, Outlast 2 is more scripted running than hide-and-seek, which makes it less tense, and the setting is much more open, taking away even more of the tension that Outlast 1/Whistleblower had in the cramped, claustrophobic asylum setting.

I don't hate Outlast 2, i think it's a great game, but i definitely prefer the first game (and especially the DLC Whistleblower). Lynn doesn’t have anything to feel guilty for, she’s the polar opposite of Blake, she has strong conviction and believes in true Justice and isn’t the typical “Oh my god that was my all my fault.” Blake has more backstory, which is why the school sequences are required more to lean into why the beacon works on him and why it doesn’t fit Lynn. The reason why Lynn didn’t get affected and Blake does is because he genuinely feels guilty for not helping Jessica and helping Loutermilch cover it up. Which is why the beacon worked so well on him. Also, the scripted running was to play into the school sequences, as opposed to where Miles and Waylon had little backstory, Blake has a whole voice actor, he’s not just a self-insert now, he actually has things that fuel his fear. I literally run past like twenty guys on nightmare mode and rarely, and I mean rarely, get caught. I’ve done that plenty of times with no enemies. The corn field enemies don’t automatically seek towards you dawg. I found her character to suit well with the storyline, but I get if others may feel uncomfortable about her. I can see Val turning off others from playing the game because Val is a evily portrayed trans character. However my friend brought up a great point I agree with. I'm not a huge fan of the ending but I think if you don't go too much into it, its not that bad. I was able to relate to the horror of it, so I thoroughly enjoyed the game.īut I found a lot of people didn't like Outlast 2, mainly for the ending. I found it made an interesting horror game because of that. The use of religious imagery and things similar freaked me out. I found a lot of fear playing Outlast 2 because of this. There was very strict, religious rules in many households around me. It was legitimately dangerous for me to grow up where I was because people got murdered for less there. There was a lot of issues with that while I was growing up because I was bi. So I grew up in the buckle of the Bible belt surrounded by some pretty hard-core baptists.
